VR Nights (Dafeet Dub Tool)

I-DJ Magazine - July 05
I've lapped up everything these guys have released in their short career. These four trippy little buggers on Pete Dafeet's download only label are more evidence there is more yet to come. From the jazzy, bendy "VR Nightz" to the twisted tech-ery of "Light Em Up", it's like a Midlands house version of MFF. And there's a splendid Pete Dafeet remix too - excellent stuff. 4/5.

Night Magazine - June 05
On this amusingly titled EP, we find four cool slabs of house. 'VR Nights' is a low-slung outing, quite tracky & dubby, with a cool off-beat piano stab & some quirky FX throughout. 'Firework' takes the tempo down but the vibe up, with some cool keys & a rumbling bassline - one of those 'midnight tracks' which gets the floor ready for the main set & any DJ will tell you those tracks are essential! 'Light Em Up' treads a similar path, if slightly less dancefloor friendly, leaving Pete Dafeet to add a little more bounce to 'VR Nights', again another 'midnight track' - all round, this is one EP to add to the box! 4/4

Pete Dafeet - Tube Groove
Pete Dafeet - Hula-Hula
Adam B - Smoketoke
Adam B & Tom Golden - Homegrown Headz

IDJ Magazine – June 2005
Not too sure how clever it is to upstage the label boss but former I-DJ Raw Talent winners Adam and Tom have sure done that here. Not that 'Feets two deep electro house cuts aren't useful, it's just that the shimmering 3am tech funk of 'Smoketoke' and the appealing tribal-cum-Chicago of 'Homegrown Headz' would stand out in any crowd. 4/5

House Single of the Month
Pete Dafeet's "Tube Groove", the lead track on this EP, is one of the finest tech-house tracks I have heard in some time. Bouncing along with a slightly jacking, yet still very techy beat, the bassline twists & turns keeping the vibe totally appealing & aimed squarely at the dancefloor. 'Hula Hula' adds some Latin cheekiness to proceedings, followed swiftly by the more minimal, yet still 100% dancefloor efforts from Adam, in the sleazy form of 'Smoketoke' & the bumpy house ride on Adam & Tom's 'Homegrown Headz'. Wicked stuff all round. 4/4

DJ Mag
No indication from Mr Dafeet here as to why this four tracker is limited, but it's worth asking around before it disappears. Why? Well, the two tracks from the main man are tight, economical grooves that could prove very useful. 'Hula' is particularly good - xylophonic percussion rolling on and on - although both might benefit from more melody or a stronger hook. Adam and Tom take the flip, meanwhile, with a chunky proggy number and a more interesting leftfield electro houser. Simple stuff but pretty sophisticated. 3.5/5

TTR Magazine / Resident Advisor / Pitch Ajust
Four tracks here, two from Pete Dafeet and two from Homegrown's Adam B & Tom Golden. Pete Dafeet kicks off with a jackin, driving, work out in "Tube groove". Snappy beats sit comfortably over an electronic bass line and bleepy effects. "Hula Hula" is a stripped back, hypnotic, xylophone-led work out. Adam's "Smoketoke" is another warm, hypnotic techy builder, with an engaging vocal loop and excellent arrangement. "Homegrown headz" lends a humorous feel with its simple arrangement and spoken vocals. 4/5
